mark styles Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) I have created what I think is an interesting arrangement of the Beatles' "Penny Lane". I want to know if it's OK to post it here? I know all the versions of orchestral music posted here is in Public domain.. But of course the Beatles material is too new. I am not charging $$ for it; I did it as an exercise in writing an arrangement which would stay within the Beatles 'sound architecture' style. If you want me to privately post it to a moderator first, to determine if it's ok.. that would be good.. Thanx.. Mark Styles Edited July 11, 2013 by mark styles Quote
Austenite Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I'd say yes, since it doesn't look like anything beyond the "fair use" doctrine (you're crediting the true authors and look for no money, for instance). But I'd like to see other opinions as well. Quote
Debreved Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Hi Fair use would not cover any public posting. An example of fair use would be creating this as a school assignment then playing it in the classroom. It would then need to be destroyed. As soon as you have put it on paper, unless you have permission from whoever administers the print rights, it is illegal. I don't think anyone would come after you, but not making money or crediting the composers does not get you off the hook. I am not trying to preach or judge, just wanted to state some facts! xrsbit Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 You really shouldn't care and I don't think anybody else does. 1 Quote
