hm999 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I came across a few videos online of a composer named Millard Leland. His music is improvisational piano playing that seems random and sometimes pretty ridiculous, but others have done stuff just as crazy I guess. Just wondering if people had heard of him and what they think of his way of making music. There's a documentary of him here: https://vimeo.com/71255688 Quote
Guest Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Hm... Gave him a listen/watch... Can't tell if he's just a really good troll, schizo or brilliant! However, I see some difficulty with writing down his music, but if Feldman could, I'm sure he can as well ^^ Quote
Plutokat Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 The editing of the video and the lack of information about the composer leads me to think this is a fact documentary A spoof intended to be funny. Quote
robinjessome Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I agree - it's intended to be "satirical", but is in-fact somewhat ignorant. As someone who works exclusively with improvised music, I've encountered more than a few "avant-gardists" who really had no genuine understanding of the spirit behind that kind of music. "Making funny noises" does not "experimental music" make. Quote
Ken320 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) Thanks for this, I'm laughing my donkey off because I played these very same pieces when I was five years old. :whistling: edit: the P.C. bot turned donkey in to donkey, just to clarify things ... Edited October 2, 2013 by Ken320 Quote
David Ackroyd Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Pretty sure it's a joke but he's hot so it's ok ;) Quote
