ansthenia Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) Hello I'm not familiar with composition beyond basic diatonic stuff yet but I was just wondering what specific technique the beginning of this track sounds like? Is this serialism, polytonality etc... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWPhNRBG-B8&list=PL0B87EE3F02A0D422 Thanks for your time Edited November 28, 2013 by ansthenia Quote
Plutokat Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The beginning is a plethera of various compositional techniques. You have some bitonality, especially in regards to the piano to the orchestra. The strings in the beginning are also using very tall chords. Chords that have 9ths, 13ths, etc. These chords are used regardless of key which causes some very interesting chromaticism. The Chord progression itself becomes a ostinato and the motif for the piece. The rest of the piece is just minor with chromaticism. Quote
