Thatguy v2.0 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Alright, so Sonataform and I have both written pieces for piano in the span of 3 days, and now it's up to you to decide who won. The criteria for judging are solely your own, choose wisely. Here are the entries Sonataform: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/5879/variations-on-michelle-in-the-style-of-brahms/ Thatguy v2.0: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/5877/cheese-at-night/ Edited January 4, 2014 by Thatguy v2.0 Quote
Gizmo Hall Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I'm really digging the originality of Cheese at Night, especially how the piece gravitated around the one three note motif (That first eighth note line that starts D-G-Bb-Hold, D-G-C-Hold). It just kept drawing me back in, noticing new interactions as it passed through different harmonies. And now its stuck in my head. Quote
Austenite Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Dang, I can't take a 3-weeks break without everything interesting happening in between  ! I've taken my time to listen to both entries, and all I can do is to complain about no scores being posted  + . Yet, I must congratulate both of our musical gunslingers for the fastest cool achievements of the year so far. Of course I would have liked to break in as well, but it's pretty obvious I came back after the shots were fired. Hopefully, since this site is quickly becoming the Internet equivalent of a ghost town in the Wild West, we'll have another duel pretty quickly :p . BTW, great idea, Thatguy! Thanks for the contribution! Quote

It's a sure way for your music to be heard and reviewed by reviewing other members works here. Dang, I can't take a 3-weeks break without everything interesting happening in between  ! Thanks for the contribution! Unfortunately I never use notation software to write music, unless I'm using it for the very tedious time consuming process of presenting a score. If this were one of the monthly competitions, I'd definitely apply more time to it, but as such, the diarrhea laced "score" that Cubase creates is unworthy of anyone's attention, and probably would cause more confusion. Nevertheless, I'll always keep the need for a score in mind. Thanks for the comments :) Quote
composerorganist Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Hello Vince. Interesting duel here. When I have time will taken a hear and look. Quote
shiihs Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Hmmm the pieces are so different it's hard to choose one over the other. It's like asking to choose which dimension is better: X or Y? Nevertheless I made a choice :) Quote
Thatguy v2.0 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 So is this duel over now? I suppose. I'll let you all know when I'll do this again (probably next month sometime), but in the meantime, I encourage you all to do the same type of thing. Having extra incentive and a deadline while writing is extremely good for you're composing, and whether you choose to compete or not, always compete with yourself. Quote
