MuseScience Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Austenite definitely deserves the title. Props to the composer and performer! It was a joy to listen to. 1 Quote
U238 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) It was a joy to listen to. Meh. Bob's music feels like it wants to be romantic, but the emotional impact isn't robust or clear enough to keep it from falling flat so the effect is cheesiness instead. I feel like if he were to spend another year or three agonizing over every single note until everything was just perfect this would be a very nice work. Being said, he has a fairly good grasp for texture and form. More so than I do most likely. If only it didn't sound like bad tv music. The performance sounds solid, although I don't know about the sound quality. Could be my speakers, though. I don't have my headphones. Edited October 26, 2014 by U238 Quote

I'm glad you stated your opinion, but at this point it doesn't matter anymore. I personally enjoyed the piece and disagree with you, however I'm going to abstain from engaging in an argument with you because I've seen that it's something you enjoy doing. Quote

There's nothing to argue about. I enjoyed the piece as well. I was giving Bob a review. Quote
luderart Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Congratulations Austenite and Sonataform for the winning piece and the performance! An idea for your consideration: For future competitions, perhaps you might like to choose a 2nd place winner too and give them a performance and recording. I think it would reward another participant from the many non-winning ones, as well as motivate more - and possibly higher quality - participation in your competitions. 1 Quote
