Hi,

I am trying to compose a small piano section in a larger music piece (in Cm key). Basically have broken chords in the progression Gm Cm Gm Cm G Cm B- B- Bb D+ Bb D+ Dm Gm Cm Cm (each chord being played for only half a measure).

I am interested in choosing the octave range (should the Gm be played lower or higher than the Cm), do all the Cms need to have the same voicing and octave. Should voice leading concepts be applied here?

There is separate bass guitar (bass just supplies the chord root), so is voicing really that critical? Also at which places in the above progression can I use inversions and in which places they are an absolute no-no? How are the diminished and augmented chords treated?

Thanks for any helpful tips.

Regards,

Shankar
