AmareAppogiature Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Hi, I'm new to this forum and interested in getting some feedback on music I've been working on. This piece is a set of variations on a Celtic hymn tune called Columcille. Please let me know what you think! Thanks in advance for listening! Luis Hernández Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Very nice tune that you exploit well. The modal feeling is everywhere, dorian. I like modality applied to new compositions. I wasn't bored at all in the 10 minutes it takes... Congrats! Quote
Marc O'Callaghan Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 That's a very nice take on the tune. Love it. Just be careful on bars 20-1, the two bassoons are playing F and E together, which is not very pleasing to the ear. It wouldn't disturb in a more contemporary or "out of the box" style of composition, but in the modal style you opted for in the rest of the piece, it is quite incongruous. It seemed to me there were a few other instances of such dissonances afterwards too, but they are far less disturbing. Overall, this is very good work, and I congratulate you. Quote
