Kimoworld Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I have chosen to upload this small solo-piece in the hope that it can inspire people, either to reconcilation itself, or to compose music. I am especially thinking on luderart here, since the piece is somewhat the same genre as a soliloquy. I personally can be inspired by other people´s music. But also books and people can inspire me. I remember one day, I was really inspired after reading fairy tales by the author H.C Andersen. However this seemed to be a one time experience. Another time when I read H.C Andersen, nothing happened. I guess you can´t generate inspiration like that. :-) This composition was initially composed using a guitar. An instrument I am not especially good at using. However the guitar was in itself a source of inspiration. I am quite sure I could not have composed this on a piano. Luis Hernández Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 The tune is chatchy and good. But I have two suggestions: 1. Perhaps it's too long. One of the features I like in Luderart's soliloquies is the brevity. If a material is not going to be developed and modified, I think it's better to leave it short. 2. The instrument. The guitar has the same "problem" as you point about the piano. The guitar is polyphonic. It can be played with multiple voices. For a work like this I would use another instrument like violin, oboe, flute, etc.... Quote
Kimoworld Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Hi Luis Thank you very much for commenting ! :-) 1. I don´t think it is too long. But of course, since the piece does nothing, but repeat. I don´t think it is a piece you can listen to several times in a row, without getting bored by it. I think this piece is maybe like a reminder to stay peaceful within. That depends on what you believe the message of the piece is. I do believe that music can have messages, and exact meanings, at least in some spiritual or symbolic sense. I personally think this piece has a "silence after storm" vibe to it. 2. What is the problem, that I point about the piano ? I am much better at playing the piano, than the guitar. So when I say : "I am quite sure I could not have composed this on a piano", I mean that my creative process for composing for guitar is somehow different than composing for piano. This piece is first played and then written down, and since I first played it on the guitar. It seems natural to use a guitar. I personally think that the guitar is a quite reflective meditative instrument, and since this piece is quite reflective, I think the guitar is a good instrument to use. Interestingly I have made a soliloquy, which also are monotonic, for the piano. Despite the fact that the piano is polyphonic, I do think that, that piece sounds good with a piano sound. Quote
Luis Hernández Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Of course you can use an instrument the way you want to. No problem. This is very interesting: I do believe that music can have messages, and exact meanings, at least in some spiritual or symbolic sense. Many times I have that feeling with musics that other people dislike, even reject. I happens to me with any kind of music, even contemporary music. I think this is like poetry. A poem means something totally differente to one person than to another. This work of yours invites me to reflection. From this point of view I dont't think it is long... Sorry, I said that from a "technic" approach. But from what I feel, it's OK... 1 Quote
