Hi, for this style of composition: tonal standard, I think you should define better a melody over the chords. Most time, the leading notes go with the chords hand in hand, exept in some parts in the ending.

I also think that, obviously, the more you learn the best you write music. It's essential to know a little about basic forms ABA, ABAB, etc.... Also modal interchange chords and modulation help a lot to make the music more interesting.

I was speaking in general. It's not bad to do it, but the contrasts are better: some part with a clear melody, other with melody-by-chords...

I would be easier to analyse it with the score.
