Gylfi Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Hi, here are five canons that I wrote as birthday presents for friends over the course of spring. Please excuse my performance, as I'm not really a saxophonist, nor a violist, nor a singer (I am amazed at how well the canon I composed for myself went though, as I only started rehearsing it the night before). Monarcheon Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 There's a lot of really cool writing in this one. The quintuplet brackets were a strange choice to me, but I can see where you're coming from. I absolutely loved the bass one though; the ending was perfect. Have you heard Schnitkke's 1st Concerto Grosso? It reminded me of a bass version of that ending and I love that one too. 1 Quote
Luis Hernández Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Wow, great! I like them all. The last one is wonderful, those microtones work! Quote
fishyfry Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 These are great! The final canon is the obvious standout of the group, with its complex rhythms and generally otherworldly atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the third canon too, although the loudness of the saxophone In the mix compared to the clarinets was kind of distracting. Regardless, there isn't anything in this collection that I wouldn't consider a success. Quote
