Anthony Johnson Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Well I decided to post some old stuff along with Monarcheon so she wouldn't take all the embarrassment hahaha...just joking don't kill me =/ Like...I mean VERY old. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing or even why other than listening to orchestral music for the first time and thought hey I wanna try! I didn't know anything about melody, chords, scales, progressions, harmony...or anything. All I knew was I was making stuff on a keyboard and thought it was amazing hahaha. Don't hurt me too bad guys... MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Cathedral of the Dark Angel Century of Great Battles The Return of Sovereign > next Quote
Luis Hernández Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Well, don't worry, it's funny. The first one sounds innocently "distonal"?, sometimes, Not bad, I like it. But there are too many instruments.... They all sound epic, indeed. I don't know if it happens to you, but when I listen to some old stuff of mine sometimes I think: "I could do something with it". But I'm lazy and I prefer to write new things. Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Now that you mention it. When the trumpets come in during Cathedral of the Dark Angel...I had absolutely no idea how I did that at the time but I would like to use that particular part again. Quote
Monarcheon Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 @LostSamurai oh, I'm sorry, I didn't want to spur anything! I don't know about you, but I think there's something both aggravating and encouraging about listening to old stuff. Anyway, your music. We all think this poorly of our earliest stuff, but perhaps we're too harsh sometimes. The first two, I heard very clear direction, with ideas that do hold up. The main thing with these, is that that seems to be all it is... ideas. Sure, some things repeat, but not to the point of "development". The third one is too cluttered with details, in my opinion. There is an atmosphere, but the details don't compliment it very much. This continues throughout the piece. Youve probably seen some of my sketches around here, and the original point of them was to have a stockpile of ideas to choose from for later, unless they were good enough standalone pieces, in which case I copyrighted them after review. Old stuff always have its merits. Quote
