Monarcheon Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 I thought I should release an example of my work for the competition just for fun. This is one of the few works I thought I was really proud of when I finished. I recently got it copyrighted, and can put it here without much worry. Looking back on it, there are a few issues, but I still rather like it. I hope you all do too! MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Variations2 > next Quote
Luis Hernández Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Yes, it's really nice. The sections are fluentely sewed. And there is contrast and variation (in the variation itself). Number VI was a bit strange because of the harmonic language, so modern, and bitonal (I think), or very chromatic. It's like an island in the other part of the piece, which is so romantic and tonal. I love this part, it's only the big contrast. It's great music, and inspiring. I have many doubts about what I'm doing because it's also for piano solo (so different from an orchestral work) and because working with atonality it's being challenging. Anyway, I enjoyed your work a lot. Greetings! 1 Quote
fishyfry Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I really like what you did with this. Each variation is unique and effective, and each got me thinking about the theme in a different way. I suppose that's the goal of a theme and variations. I particularly like the last three variations. IV is a beautiful waltz, and I like the chromaticism that you use in the middle of it. After mostly straightforward tonality in the variations before it, it is a little more radical and might give a little preparation for the final variation. The slow variation is nice as a conservative and pretty resting period before the buildup into VI, which really excited me. From that point on, the piece has a great energy until the very end. Great job! I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone cooks up for the competition this time around. 1 Quote
