Heyoh fellow composers!

This composition confuses me. It started as an expression for some feelings you can hear in the beginning, but escalated into quite big orchestral with quite a variety of emotions. But I still find it to be reflective - I just don't know what it's about. Just that it hits me damn hard. I don't know what to name it, so I left the original name at least for now.

Any thoughts, associations or points of view this strikes in you would be interesting to know! Also, criticism is most welcome ^^

Cheers!

Hm, this seems like a relatively basic husk with potential for a lot more.

  • 2nd inversion chords and parallel octaves in the big part to the melody in the bass keep this from really feeling as impactful as you wanted.
  • The somewhat Burton/Elfman style portion after that is uneven and overstays its welcome for a bit as a variation.
  • Lagged melody in the beginning section only works for so long, otherwise it starts losing its effect which this one was on the border of for me.
  • Could have used more in the ending. Left too quickly for me... also didn't raise any questions like I imagine thoughtful pieces should, you know? Questioning and confused are not the same emotion.
  • i - IV can get a little tiring after a while...

It does sound nice, but somewhat lacks the inner grit I personally feel is required in such a reflective piece. Fleshing it out could be an interesting task.

Cheers!

Hi

It's funny. The piece is very nice. But this phrase it's strange to me: "It started as an expression for some feelings you can hear in the beginning...." I don't know, music can bring many different images and sensations, but even if you said what feelings are those you wanted to express, probably they'll be not the same for me.

This sounds like a mini-suite of something bigger. The music is "cinematic". There is a chain of phrases and ideas here.

I can definitely hear some Danny Elfman in there. I really loved the build up, it wasn't forced (which is my issue) but I do hear a lot of ideas that are really well done. A lot of good combinations of instruments. Nice work!

Movies I hear from this:

Nightmare Before Christmas

Lord of the Rings

Hunchback of Notre Dame
