SymphonicMadness Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Hey guys it has been ages since I have posted on here and I've missed this community a great deal! As always I am constantly writing and usually post material in the Video game music/film score section but with this post comes some fresh new material in which I have been heavily inspired by retro music but I wanted to put my own "spin" on it! I hope you guys dig and let me know what you think! Here is the link to the youtube channel if you guys are interested! Monarcheon Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I'm going to be honest with you here. I felt almost nothing listening through this. With a rather unstable chord progression, you're forced to change things for completion at the very end... I hear you switching to the V chord after the VI on the latter beats of the 4th chord. Rarely did something build up to another thing. Drops and jumps in the mood were just that... drops and jumps, rather than raises and falls. It began promising with the electric guitar leading into the first loud section but after that it was flat. The novelty of the song/piece fades as soon as I realized this. Maybe that's just me. I will think of things on the basis of musical depth of analysis, rather than the execution of it, oftentimes. Could be very well worth getting another opinion. Quote
SymphonicMadness Posted October 16, 2016 Author Posted October 16, 2016 Appreciate the feedback! I can respect the straightforwardness of the feed back and so far I've gotten mostly positive responses! I think this could be a case where a piece just didn't do it for some people but does for others! As far as the musical analysis of the progression I definitely wanted to bring in some metal influence to the piece but nothing is above revision. Looking back on the track with fresh eyes I can see a few things I need to change but all in all I am definitely pleased with the overall composition it became. I'm going to expand on the transitions and post again! I hope you'll give it another shot when I do! But if not, I appreciate the time you took to comment. Cheers! Quote
Ken320 Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I think you did a good job, since this genre requires a good bit of cliche. Otherwise it wouldn't fit the genre. The chord progression is solid and the energy is good as well as the guitar work. You thinned out the action here and there and then brought it back strong, which was very effective. If you're going for a single chord progression you must make up for that with other things, which you have done for the most part. Except for the snare drum which really really needs to be more alive, and really have a personality of its own. Maybe drum machine programming is not your main thing but you've got to do it right. And I would have liked a deeper bass along with that. I have just seen Junkie XL's youtube video on his Mad Max score and what his thinking was on how to get the sound. What he did was also fairly cliche musically, BUT there was the necessary sonic attitude to make the difference. For what you're doing it might help. Quote

Anthony Johnson Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) I love the electric guitar solos. Did you record that using live equipment? because if not they sound really natural. Edited October 26, 2016 by LostSamurai Quote
