Anthony Johnson Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) With this I tried to tell a story about a Duke that belongs to royalty who is very delusional and twisted. I tried to do something I don't normally do with instrumentation and I attempted to go for the film score level... Monarcheon Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 The reason this sounds a little awkward to me is that all of your chords are minor. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but makes some of the borrowed chords sound like they jump rather than transition. It sounds pretty impressive on a purely visual standpoint, and the awrkwadness was not often. Also, your endings... better this time but didn't seem to really be grounded. Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Thanks. I'll definitely keep that in mind next time around, the chords and the ending I mean. Personally I thought my tuba and spiccato strings were too loud in my quieter parts. Quote
Luis Hernández Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I think it's very nice. I has an air of mystery, perhaps because the melody is a bit jumpy. 1 Quote

The initial idea was to express a feeling of being mentally unstable, delusional, twisted, sick, and evil, so the jumpy melody was intended. I think in order to express a certain mental instability something cannot be the same for a long period of time so to speak. It has to be unstable, jumpy, ever changing...otherwise it would've gave the feeling of a mentally healthy person. When the percussion come in later during that high point it was this twisted individual's way of saying "Minions and slaves go unleash fury on these poor innocent people." I'm glad you guys enjoy it. Ken320 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Nice. I like that tuba melody. He is quite the unstable old fella, isn't he? Quote

Well I haven't mentioned this before but with the tuba, what I tried to convey was not only was this guy twisted and unstable but very gluttonous and obese. Ok I admit I was playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and there is a character in the game who is a duke that is exactly as I described. Edited October 30, 2016 by LostSamurai Quote
SallyTheSeabird Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Have to agree with Monarcheon, I feel that the way you delay the ending from 2:10 onwards sounds a bit odd. All in all though the piece was very good. I really liked the entrance of the percussion in particular, very bold and epic. 1 Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Thanks. My endings were always a bit odd so I'm doing much more research than ever before I start working on something new. I was actually told that Mozart also had difficulty ending his pieces too which didn't make me feel too terrible cause I mean if a legendary composer has issues with that then a basic nobody shouldn't have a issue feeling bad about it hahaha. But in general I am reading up on it and I was given a handful of helpful links to get me started on that so thank you all for enjoying my music as much as I enjoy the music you guys do. bkho Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I thought this was great. Reminds me of the soundtrack to Heroes of Might and Magic III which I consider one of the best video game soundtracks. Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 A have a circle of friends who plays that actually hahaha. Quote
