Monarcheon Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 The sound envelopes on your sounds are backwards and very strange and inhuman sounding, was that what you're going for. The beginning with continuing chords got boring with a melody or something to focus on. It's nice how this travels to a bunch of places. The cello piano duet was really awkward. What was awkward still was the resolution you made to the final note. Totally out of place. Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) The sound envelopes were definitely a mixing issue on my part. Initially, I had the Cello playing somewhere mid to low range, the basses were all low range, and the violins were higher but when I mixed, I mistakenly took out the other ranges over the entire track. Unfortunately this uses a lot of memory and it sends the CPU into overdrive hahaha so I won't be able to tweak it the way I want to because my DAW will freeze When you say it travels nicely to different places, I changed from key to key....I think...quite often. Not sure if that was a good idea or not... The Cello and piano was where I really kinda lost on the ideas and had nothing left to add so I tried to forcefully end it which is why it sounded off. And I ended on a Cm or C#m I think...since the whole thing started in that key so I figured I would end on it too? Thanks for the review but man this stuff is hard Edited January 4, 2017 by LostSamurai Quote
Gustav Johnson Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Don't let the duds get you down. Everybody has off days and compositions they're less proud of, but the important thing is to learn what you can from them about your techniques (moments you did well and moments you didn't). For me it was just a little jumbled. I wouldn't give up on this piece and trash it altogether, but I might use this as a "junk piece", where I try cutting things out, adding new ideas in, exploring some options you don't normally use. Try to find what you don't like, then work to push it towards something you do like. Keep writing :) Gustav Johnson Quote
