Seni-G Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 This is my newest piece, something I worked on for a long time. The entire piano sonata is called "Lovejail", and this is the 1st movement. This music was written as I went through a very difficult period in my life, when many things I held dear came crashing down; a period where I caused and received a lot of pain and learned some hard-fought lessons. Despite the pain, this piece is also full of love, and hope for a brighter future. Pain and hope, felt simultaneously. There is no better catharsis for me than to express my anger, regret, shame, hope, aspirations, and dreams through music. I hope this music brings you as much joy as it brought me. maestrowick Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Although the piece is nice...actually a pleasure to listen to, I don't know where melodically you're going. I hear so many melodies here, they don't seem to be developed altogether. I hear more of an "overture" of ideas. You have a full suite hear if you choose to extrapolate all of these wonderful ideas. Monarcheon Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 It's not enough to have an arc sometimes and I think this is a perfect example of that. The form is a little loose, and there are plenty of ideas, but harmonically and thematically, it seems like a grab bag of things that could be coherent if put together correctly, like a puzzle. Sometimes it may be the case, but for a piece like this, it's not the audience's job to interpret a vague statement, it's your job to bring it to the table. Interesting counterpoint and homophony, but could use that little more harmonic development to stand its ground better. Quote
