Anthony Johnson Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Nobuo Uematsu is one of my favorite composers. His work is simple but leaves a large emotional impact so I tried to go for a short version of his work with the main theme to FF7. This is also a way for me to learn more about how the instruments are used and a way for me to study sheet music. After reading and studying this is what I came up with. This is short but I hope it is okay... Score MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Final Fantasy 7 Theme Short > next Quote
Gustav Johnson Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Is the score what you arranged from, or is it meant to be your actual arrangement? Like the use of your dynamic expression, and the textural difference between the solo violin versus the tutti violin section. Also, cool organ/synth sound, it adds a nice relief from the predominant string texture. In this context you stayed true to the original version, I'd encourage you to listen to it and find places where you made it your own -- like what you did with the organ/synth interjections. The interjections are in the original, but the way you expressed it musically gave it a little "sparkle". Find ways of doing that more often, so that when someone listens to it compared to another arrangement or the original, they can say -- "Hey, that's the Lost Samurai arrangement!" That could mean adding some supporting parts, elaborating or harmonizing with the melody, etc. I quite enjoyed it, definitely keep exploring this avenue :) Gustav Johnson Quote
Anthony Johnson Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Thanks Gustav. The score was what I was reading from. I'm doing some serious study and hopefully will get better. Thank you and I promise to keep that in mind! Quote
