Seni-G Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) I wrote this song for my son before he was born. It's about the awesome responsibility of raising a child, the eventual sadness when they fly off on their own, and of course the circle of life. This recording was created using some pretty low-tech equipment: a microphone, Finale, Audacity, and a Casio keyboard (all instruments were recorded from the keyboard). The quality could be higher (especially on the drum beat), but you gotta work with the tools you got! Please enjoy, and feel free to leave any feedback. Edited January 9, 2017 by Seni-G Quote
Monarcheon Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I∆7, ii, V7, I∆7. You develop it very nicely throughout the piece, but when it's just this progression it gets boring quickly. Otherwise, it's very harmonically interesting. I'd pay more attention to percussion; it's such an important part of bossa music. You seem to be on the edge of the old songwriter's trap of too many major 7th chords that don't resolve. It works okay in a progression, but when you add further accompaniment, it almost crosses that line. It's very pleasant. Nicely done! Quote
Ken320 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 A breath of fresh air. I would cut the intro by half and get right to the meat of it. The chord progression is really nice, especially where you move from Ab-Gb-E back to EbM7. In my head I wanted to hear AbM7-Gm7 instead of AbM7-EbM7 before you make the descent. Had you thought about this? Lots of other delicate gestures here that I loved. Quote
maestrowick Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 The rhythm for samba is bossa faster. The tempo of this is in that funny realm of "what is it?" Slower Samba or fast bossa. With that being said, you can get some cool loops for either or online to add depth to this wonderful composition. Add congas too. I want to hear more! Quote
