MarvinHamlischContest Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) THE 5th ANNUAL MARVIN HAMLISCH FILM SCORING CONTEST FOR EMERGING COMPOSERS OPEN TO YOUTH AND EMERGING COMPOSERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD $20,000 WORTH OF PRIZES AVAILABLE Registration Deadline: January 20, 2017 Composers from around the world are invited to register for the 5th annual Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Contest for Emerging Composers. With categories for Youth (under 18 years) and Emerging (18 years or older), each composer is provided with a short film to score, and each composer who submits a score receives feedback on his or her score from our judges. All contestants must register by January 20, 2017. $20,000 worth of prizes are available to contest winners, runners-up and finalists, including an array of virtual instruments from sponsors Orange Tree Samples, Sonokinetic and Soundiron — and the complete collection of premiere sponsor Embertone; MOTU’s Digital Performer 9 workstation software and new 624 interface; the latest Finale notation software from MakeMusic; and admission to SCORE A SCORE’s composer pool connecting composers to professional clients. In addition, every contestant will receive a $20 coupon to the Embertone store towards the virtual instrument of your choice. Ten finalists will be named in each category on April 7, 2017, with the contest winners and runners-up selected by our distinguished jury: in the Emerging category, Mychael Danna, Academy Award-winning composer (Best Original Score, Life of Pi, 2012), multiple BMI Award-winning composer and Emmy nominee George S. Clinton, and Emmy Award-winning music editor, supervisor, conductor and Director of Screen Scoring at University of Southern California, Daniel Carlin; and in the Youth category, Alison Plante, composer and Chair of Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music; Ronald Sadoff, composer, music supervisor and Director of Programs in Film Scoring and Songwriting at NYU Steinhardt; and composer, conductor, arranger and area leader in the Composition for Screen program at the Royal College of Music, Vasco Hexel. In 2016, over 600 composers from 57 competed in the Marvin Hamlisch Contest. Lawson Madlener of California (Youth) and Robert Bozen of Italy (Emerging) were named the contest winners and presented with the Marvin Hamlisch Award by Terre Blair Hamlisch at CINE Celebrates: New York. The winners of this year's Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Contest will be announced on June 6, 2017 and honored at CINE Celebrates: New York in the fall of 2017.
