Ken320 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I think that you have some good ideas going here. But they are hampered by your choice of fifths in the accompaniment, which is sometimes at odds with your melody. Yes, they are sometimes resolved, in a fashion. But it would be best to avoid the awkward intervals (for example, stretched octaves like bar 18 with C#4 - D5). I'd like to give you just one suggestion, and that is to redo the left hand using figures of 6ths instead of 5ths. It would give you the flexibility of using major sixths or minor sixths, whatever goes best with the melody. Try it out. Quote
Monarcheon Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Ken presented an excellent suggestion; something I didn't even notice my first time listening. I agree wholeheartedly with him. Something to add would be variation in measure structure... a lot of this is one chord per measure, which isn't necessarily bad, but the melody could use a lot more support from a much more interesting bass line sometimes. Not always though :) it's mostly fine, there are just times I wanted more. Also, not everything in the right hand needs to be in octaves to make it dramatic. Blocked chords are great, but the flow of the piece contributes to the drama more, in my opinion. Cheers! Quote
