Foompaloomp Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) I've always had trouble coming up with names for songs I write, but this one particulaly stumped me. I wrote this before last Thanksgiving, and I've still thought of nothing that fits. Do any of you have any ideas? I dont care if it's lame, I'm just looking for something simple that fits. This recording is synthesized, and really low quality, so sorry about that. Monarcheon Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I heard the Tchaikovsky 5 in there ;) I think an early-period courtroom style thing would be fitting here. Like "la valse de la salle" or something. Quote
Maarten Bauer Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Sounds like Smetana's ''Die Moldau.'' Maybe Viaggio, which means journey? Quote
markstyles Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) Coming up with good titles is an art in itself.. it requires practice.. I often do exercises of writing song titles alone. sometimes that leads me to write a piece.. Most often the music comes first.. As the piece is progressing.. I listen to it a lot, put on auto loop.. I write down words, images, phrases that the music evokes. Then often go through a thesaurus (for alternate words).. First listening of your lovely work, gave me impressions, of a vast horizon, horses, clouds, movement and journey.. Allow yourself wider lee-way.. Just write down words, like auto-writing.. Don't analyze what you write, just write or type down, and keep listening.. don't be afraid to let you imagination run wild. Indulge yourself in going off on a tangent.. When I get really stuck I start looking at lists.. Lists of colors, flowers, birds, famous geographical places any kind of list.. The internet is an amazing tool for this.. Just start googling anything, and follow it, jump stream, and see where it takes you.. It's a kind of adventure in itself.. Of course you're playing your composition as you do this.. Read some esoteric poet's work.. find phrases there (again playing your piece). it's an exercise in loosening your imagination.. As you listen to your piece, pretend you are not the composer.. Listen as an old man, a Victorian woman, a child, a 14th century Chinaman. If the music evokes a particular period of music, look at titles of that era, think of things that evoke that period. A title is the often the first thing a person knows about a piece, it can determine whether he wants to stop and listen to it. It can give authority, and legitimacy to the music. Prosody - when all the elements of something re-inforce each other and make s something whole. It's a very nice piece. Edited June 20, 2017 by markstyles Quote
