markstyles Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Here's an instrumental piece I did. I threw in a lot of music references.. making it a little bit hard to pin down.. It was an exercise in 'flight of imagination'.. MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu The Spectral Forest 175 > next PDF The Spectral Forest Score Quote
Luis Hernández Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Your score is so large...! The music is wonderful. You create a distinct environment. I love the mood of softness, and that sound of light jazz. Great work and thanks for uploading the score, always nice to see it and learn.... Quote
Monarcheon Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 The polyphony is a little strange, but definitely is mood-creating so I can accept it. There are some spots in the middle section with "vocals" that came out as strange, especially the modulatory chords. The main thing I experienced was the oddity of the beginning. I thought I was going to be getting some kind of modern jazz or something, but it turned into something a lot more lax... maybe that was the idea, but it really confused me. Overall, good job! Quote
markstyles Posted March 29, 2017 Author Posted March 29, 2017 Thanx guys .... from two 'seasoned composers'.. As you've probably guessed, I'm a lot self taught, with some arranging, and song writing courses from Berklee On line.. Monarcheon = I definitely see your point, the intro does set you up for something different.. It might have made sense for the intro to be more relaxed, it's a bit 'exuberant and ambitious' for the rest of the piece.. But I like humor and the unexpected.. (I really don't take myself seriously anymore) I greatly appreciate your comments Luis and Monarcheon. I respect the two of you very much. Quote
