Noah Brode Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Here's a little waltz that I wrote in 2015, but never got around to finishing until recently. I hope you like it! MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Waltz in A Major > next PDF Waltz in A Major Quote
Luis Hernández Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Strong opening! this is not one of my preferred styles but I listen to every kind of music and I'm always interested in what others compose. I appreciate the orchestration, I think it's always difficult. Contrasts are nice: thinner parts, tutti, dialogue. The result is quite nice. I always wonder if the harp part is possible. In some spots there are a lot of changes... Greetings. Quote

Yeah, you are correct to wonder :) ... It's probably irresponsible of me to write harp parts without knowing whether they're possible. I do love the sound of it, though Thanks for the compliments on orchestration! It's historically been one of my weak points. I have actually been trying to get away from writing large-ensemble music lately. It's almost guaranteed to never get played, so it's really an exercise in futility. But I guess orchestration is a good skill to have nonetheless. Thanks for listening, Luis! Quote
Davison Yon Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Hey, one think I noticed is that there are no harp pedal markings. I am not sure of how standard it is, but it is something you should look into if you write more music including a harp. My professor in university would nag me about this, and it was always a drag since I am not a harpist. I the sentiment about the harp part being playable would be answered if you figured out the markings. Other than that, nice piece of music! Really nice textures and progressions. - Davison Yon 1 Quote
Noah Brode Posted August 4, 2017 Author Posted August 4, 2017 Thanks for the compliments, @Davison Yon! Yeah, I only have a very basic understanding of the harp. It's such a beautiful instrument, though, that I will have to read more about it. Quote
