Peter Crow Composer Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 (edited) Hi! My name is Peter Crow, I'm a film/ game composer from the Netherlands. I made this track and I would like to hear your thoughts on it. it's going to be used in a game for the itch.io game jam 2017. (if its good enough and if it fits the game of course. I haven't gotten a lot of information on the game but that didn't stop me! since the topic is "dreams" I thought it could fit.) it's just a (very) rough sketch of two themes. the topic for the game jam is "dreams". I haven't gotten to any mixing or mastering yet. these are just the melodies. Please take into consideration that this is game music. so it's mostly in the background. Luis Hernández Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Very nice, I like it. In the first one I would stop the high drone at 00:38, or so. 1 Quote

I used the following libraries: NOVO modern strings, action strikes and Sam orchestral essentials (only for the rough sketch). They're all compatible with kontakt 5. Maarten Bauer Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Welkom bij de club! It is lovely! The topic ''dreams'' is very present in your composition, so do not worry about that. I like the tremolo in the strings (if I am right) from the beginning, because this creates a sort of mysterious atmosphere. When the brass comes in, this atmosphere makes place for a more heroic, epic theme. I suggest you stop the tremolo from that moment, because it then becomes a bit too repetitive and disturbing for me. An idea: This long C that was first played in tremolos by high strings can then be taken over by some lower strings playing arco to support the brass. The second part reminds me of some Asian film music. Probably because of the harp (or guitar). This theme is dreamy as well, because the music echoes. I like how you use double stops in the viola. Finally, the third part. In my opinion, this is the most wonderful part. It has a vivid mood and the 'dialogue' between the powerful brass and the smooth strings is splendid. The drums create even more epicness. However, the end came way too fast for me: a sudden low drum and all music is gone. That is a pity and you should make the end more smooth. Furthermore, the idea of ''dreams'' did not came out that nice like with the previous two parts. It rather reminds me of a great adventure than a restful dream. In conclusion, I think you have done very well and you may be proud! Goed gedaan! 1 Quote

S.G. Faustmann Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Beautiful harmony! I see a good inspire from original 'Journey' game - but you've got amazing sense of athmosphere here too! With this drone tone - i can tell you, will be better if this will be much more organic, with some changes in it - even the simplest volume level or expression. Just to feel, that this breathe and is more natural. Next thing is about technical problem, that is too much dry for me. Little bit of simple plate reveerb will be best to use here! And everything will be lovely to hear! But good work Peter! 1 Quote
Jonny Clifford Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Hi Peter, love the piece, really played with some emotions and created a huge atmosphere in my lounge while listening. I was wondering if you do any mixing and mastering for others? I’m always writing new content but I’ve never got my head round the mixing and mastering to make it that little better. Let me know if this is a possibility. Cheers, jonny Quote
