tmarko Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 While cleaning up my various notes and sketches from my computer, I came across this piece I did a while back. I've long been a fan of "Appalachian Spring", and in particular, the original version for chamber. I decided to attempt to use this type of ensemble but added horns oboe to have a full wind quintet. The second horn was for added color. It was more an exercise in smaller mixed group writing for me. Comments appreciated. Luis Hernández Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Hi, the sensation I have is of an adagio. It's nice, perhaps I miss some climax (as in Barber's)... Quote
Monarcheon Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Not going to lie, the minor 6th appoggiatura on the dominant is a little distracting for me, and I'm not really sure why; perhaps because of the overlapped chord the melodic fragment creates. Also, I'm missing a bit of the low tones in general... it's just slightly sonically depthless but by no means a problem. Interesting work, and a good example of lush chamber sounds. Quote
maestrowick Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Upon hearing the first note, I said to myself, "not another piece in C minor." Then after listening more, I said, this has a lot to offer. My biggest gripe it the lack of counterpoint and it ends too soon. Develop this some more. With what you have, this piece could be at least 5 minutes longer. Quote
tmarko Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 Luis, thanks for listening. Monarcheon, is the lack of low tones a writing problem or a rendering problem? (Sorry about the minor 6!) Maestro, I'm definitely going to revisit this and try to expand it into a bigger work. Again, thanks to all for your comments. Tim Quote
Maximus Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Please expand piece by doing some variations on existing themes. Quote
