Maarten Bauer Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 All five pieces are really beautiful. The harmonies are nice and the rhythms are interesting, although a quarter quintuplet against normal eighth notes seem pretty difficult to play correctly. But, when it is played as it is written, it gives a nice 'lost' atmosphere. What do you mean with the rests in the first and second bar of the first piece? Do you mean with ''idea'' that each piece has a different subject? If so, what are the pieces about or what did you want to express with each work? Or more like other thematic material? Very nice! The rests affect to the eights in both hands. #1 uses a polychord (and its scales): Cm7(b5) over Dm7 #2 extended chords to the 13th with augmented fundamental (tonic) in the last chord. #3 hexatonic scale over pentatonic #4 polyrhythm with modality #5 harmony in 4ths / 5ths Quote
markstyles Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 deep stuff.. wow.. I get different feelings for each piece/section.. I'd love to hear each piece longer, cause then I'd have something to latch onto. took a few listens to not perceive it as one piece. However, I understand many of your pieces are explorations of a concept, emotion, technique. AND i can totally appreciate that. Your posts are more often 'food for thought for the rest of us here'.
