Luis Hernández Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I think it's very colorful. But almost all the piece goes in "vertical". An orchestral arrangement needs some counterpoint. 1 Quote
Maarten Bauer Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Luis' comment is very true. The music sounds very full, which is beautiful, but for me the music is too static, which is caused by 'harmony blocking.' You really should add more counterpoint. The contrasts are very effective. 1 Quote
aMusicComposer Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 I appreciate these comments. This is meant to be easy to learn quickly and perform by a (if I'm honest) not-very-good band. Does it sound too simple? Quote

Yes, it sounds too easy and counterpoint doesn't have to make music harder to play actually. In fact, it will benefit your music. Quote

I was told by my music teacher that it would be easy to make it too hard so we didn't want to make it too hard. I think we went too easy. Quote
Willibald Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Towards the end, you already use more individual lines, so there is already a foundation for further improvements. Especially the bass parts profit immensely from having some individuality that contrasts with the melody. There are also some good ideas with contrasting blocks of instruments. Quote
aMusicComposer Posted November 2, 2017 Author Posted November 2, 2017 Here's a new version. With the counterpoint, am I along the right lines? MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Dancing Queen (new) > next PDF Dancing Queen (new)-Score_and_Parts Quote
