Mikebat321 Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 I know this is a rather untenable question, but do you think it's at all possible to equate how much money Beethoven has made the world over since his death? Do you think it's fair to assume that it's vastly much more than someone like Elvis or Michael Jackson? There's a website called www.celebritynetworth.com, and you can enter anyone you like and get their estimated net worth. I put in Beethoven but nothing of course. They do have deceased famous people though, for instance they put Elvis' net worth at £300million, and Michael Jackson at £600million (although there's another entry that says his music has earned £2billion since his death!). I also realise that the further you go back in time it becomes more complicated as you have to adjust for inflation, I think the most succesful film of all time is Gone With the Wind, if adjusted for inflation. So do you think it's at all possible to even estimate a figure of Beethoven's earnings thus far, or do you think this is absolutely impossible? Mike Quote
June Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 I don't think it's either possible or meaningful for work so far out of copyright. No way to measure (and in practice, no descendants to speak of, unlike more recent public figures)... Quote
bkho Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 If you are talking about money made by anyone via Beethoven's music and likeness, it probably is in the hundreds of billions if not more. Quote
Youngc Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 posthumously or both I think I read an article on ClassicFM that tased about how much money composers make/made Quote
Austenite Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 It's a pity that none of it ever reached Beethoven himself. Quote

Kvothe Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Wow! That's a rather interesting question. I wouldn't exactly know his yearly income. Quote
