So I started writing a third symphony, with the same instrumentation as the previous two. I remembered that I have a lot of unused material that I wrote years ago. Some of it is probably 5 years old or older at this point. I took two things that I wrote, and put them together to create what is intended to be the intro to Movement I. The originals, "composition" and "Symphony," are included below for reference (I imported the original MIDIs, and Musescore messed up the triplets). I took them and tried to improve upon them, including taking them out of the full orchestra zone and condensing them into the chamber orchestration. I wasn't comfortable with the full orchestra back then and I certainly am not now.

Overall, the only thing I can say so far about it is that it is very repetitive. I guess that's just part of my style.

Sound like this should be a celebration type piece, an abrupt transition from the melody in the beggining to the string section. Sounds good though and keep working. I I were to name this piece it would be "Joy snd Dance" or something like that

This is wonderful stuff. The first composition is nice and light, has great momentum.

I really liked the Symphony Movement 1 version too. Reminded me of Mitsuda, particularly his Chrono Trigger/Cross OST.

I didn't find the piece particularly repetitive... just the right amount of notes! Keep this up.

@kylebnjmnross

I listened to all three of them. They're good yet I'm not that impressed.

Actually I tend to have a lot of fun reviving my old pieces too.

Two things:

1. Notice these.

I don't think that everything has to be notated and that one... just looks like a mess.

I'm not saying that the time you spent notating these worth nothing,  but that you should consider keeping it an audio file.

Many pieces of mine are just audio files because it would takes so much time to make them... not look like a mess.

2. I wonder what's defined as a symphony.

Here, too, I think that you shouldn't force the "symphony" term on your piece.

I composed over two hundred things and none of them was a symphony,

I never actually wrote something good for a full symphonic orchestra because I just don't know what to do with so many instruments.
