Sepharite Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 I wanted to create something inspirational. I showed my wife she said it was missing something to give it that oomph. She's not sure what it is, but what do you guys think so far? MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Dreams, I have > next Quote
Austenite Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Are you writing a soundtrack to MLK's speech? You could increase the epicness of it by adding some heavy bass, as Rabbival suggests - and perhaps a few brass strikes. Timpani would also work. Quote
Sepharite Posted April 22, 2018 Author Posted April 22, 2018 Thanks for listening. I'll add heavy bass and extend it. Quote
Sepharite Posted April 23, 2018 Author Posted April 23, 2018 Added a small bass line. More like this? MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Dreams, I have > next Quote

I guess you might want to raise the musical tension according to the emotional intensity of the speech. Quote
Sepharite Posted April 23, 2018 Author Posted April 23, 2018 What are some good way to increase tension? Increasing disonance? Quote

Well resolving sustained chords with 7th chords is usually a nice way to maintain 'some' tension. So yes dissonance. But that doesn't feel like what's wrong, I think it's lacking the feeling of a third. I feels like there is some emptiness in the structure. I have a dream (Yes) [applause] that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice (Yeah), sweltering with the heat of oppression (Mhm), will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I think if you could mimic what the crowd was feeling rather than what MLK is saying it'd gain that tension, that emotion. that oomph. Edited April 25, 2018 by Some Guy That writes Music Quote
