Muhammadreza Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Greetings Guys! Most of you, know that I live in Iran. An ancient land with a great history in arts, specially music. But, Unfortunately, I couldn't find "Lute" here. It seems Lute is one of most-European things and it couldn't be find easily. But I didn't become disappointed and continued searching in music market. I found an amazing instrument called "Laouto" (and as Turks/Arabs/Iranians say "Laoud") and this is here : Left is Laouto and write is my "Lute Guitar". Why I call it "Lute Guitar"? Because I made it sound like a Lute. I just detuned G string half step and put a capo on 3rd fret. Now it's tuned G - C - F - A - D - g . I didn't compose anything using these two instruments and I need your help on ideas. But, I improvised something. 1. Lute Guitar improvisation : Lute Guitar Sample.mp3 2. Laouto improvisation (A minor) : Laouto Sample.mp3 3. Laouto Improvisation (Maqam Hijaz / Arabian Scale) : Laoud Improvisation.mp3 I hope I will be able to compose new pieces by your help! P.S : I couldn't find any better place to post this topic. MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Lute Guitar Sample Laouto Sample Laoud Improvisation > next 1 Quote
Luis Hernández Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Interesting. In my country (Spain), it's easy to find a lute. In fact I thought the one in your picture was a lute. Here, the lute is used mostly in popular folk music, and its play with a plectrum in a continuous tremolando (like a mandolin). 1 Quote

Interesting! I only heard Bach works for Lute and soundtracks done by Jozef van Wissem. I'll be happy to listen Spanish Lute music (I'm a fan of Flamenco music, and this is why I learned the guitar!) Luis Hernández Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Here is a good example. This is a "pasodoble", a typical folk style in Spain. In the left a mandolin, in the middle a laúd (plucked), in the right a guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpNwbHm2l4M Quote

But My Laúd is tuned A - D - G - C - E - A. I think tuning like this is better for me (because I'm a guitar player) 1 Quote
Ampnoe's Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Hi, @Muhammadreza and @Luis Hernández There are indeed many different types, from different countries, with many designs. Some of them are dificult to find, and ebay/ amazon etc is the only solution 🙂 They are enough expensive instuments, all the types of lute, but when you hear their sound, which is great, i think they worth their money. They do have very clean sound, -as your samples- & awesome traditional design. But there are many many many types found in diferrent cultures. They are very special instrumets! -Even if i dont know how to play 🙂 - Wish you inspiration for new musics or to play your favourite songs as well on your new Laouto ! Play Laoud & play LOUD 🙂 1 Quote

I need to ask my aunt who lives in Persian Gulf countries, or my uncles who live in Europe to buy and then send to me. It takes a very long time :)) 7 hours ago, Ampnoe's said: nough expensive instuments, all the types of lute, but when you hear their sound, which is great, i think they worth their money. I think it wasn't that expensive, I paid about $500 for my Laud. 7 hours ago, Ampnoe's said: They are very special instrumets! Of course they are. I also have a deep love in "Taar" and "Sehtaar" which are Iranian folk instruments and have similar structure to guitar or Lute. 1 Quote
Muhammadreza Posted May 2, 2018 Author Posted May 2, 2018 And I mixed Laud with Cello, Electric guitar and some Arabic/Persian percussions. It sounds like heaven! MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Andalus > next 1 Quote
Muhammadreza Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 Guys, I'm busy these days but I never forget playing music. But, I really need your help to find some "Lute" pieces which are written for Renaissance lute. Do you have any source? I searched muse-score and other famous websites. Quote
