HoYin Cheung Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I think your work is great. I seldom listen to / compose minimalistic music but permutations of notes are always interesting to me! (which reminds me of permutation in group theory in mathematics) I've just checked out Steve Reich's works and I find it inspiring! I think I will write a minimalistic work too. I am thinking if polyphony is contradictory to minimalism though. Quote
Luis Hernández Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Interesting, and beautiful too. i don't think minimalism is the opposite to polyphony. However, in this piece I would say the texture is heterophonic: simultaneous variation of a single melodic line. 1 Quote
Sepharite Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 Thanks for listening! Glad you found it interesting. I think Minimalism is still polyphony, depending on how its composed. In this case, it's still polyphony because while the notes are the same, the timing is shifted becoming a new phrase each time. Speaking of Reich, check out this piece: Quote
