Monarcheon Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 I don't really understand the need for the cross relation between the subtonic and leading tone in the beginning chord progression (V), and whenever you use it later. In the beginning here, I'm not really appreciating the two note figure you're passing off as a melody. Especially when you hit F# minor. In the brief section with a lot of chords, it doesn't really have much impact because you're not really changing any of the rules you've set up. The chromatics were a nice touch, but everything is scalar, just like before. Beginning around 1:50, I was disappointed to hear the first chord progression come back again, but at least the new melody was a bit better, but you could have changed the bass part a bit. The second repeated chords figure has the same issue as before. Is this supposed to be a theme and variations kind of piece? If so, the variations should probably be a bit more varied. If not, it sounds way too much like one, harmonically, with the repeated progressions. It's a fine piece, I just the the dramatic arc is way too conservative and limits a decent idea you had from the beginning. Quote
Quintus Posted May 13, 2018 Author Posted May 13, 2018 Thank you for the feedback, it is helpful. It is not supposed to be a theme and variations kind of piece per se, its just supposed to be nice to listen to. thank you Quote
