Slazeus Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 So some of my friends were talking to me about an idea for a little web animated sitcom series set in heaven a little while ago. (I don't think they'll ever make it but I saw an opportunity for a fun exercise). So I decided to make a theme/Jingle that would go over the intro sequence. Let me know what you think! I also threw together a quick picture just to help set the atmosphere a bit 🙂 MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu A little Piece of Heaven (Remaster) > next Quote
Battlegun Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I think you need to add a couple more instruments to make it complete. I feel perhaps an airy pad underneath and maybe an instrument that's in the higher frequencies would work best. I like your song so far! 1 Quote
Slazeus Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 Thanks for the feedback Battlegun. Listening back I agree a higher frequency instrument would be good and I did put a pad in there but I guess it could be made a bit more prominent. Thanks again! Quote
jnalanko Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 The vocal trill at 0:08 sounds off. That sounds physically impossible to sing. It makes it really obvious that it's not a real singer. The harp is drowned out by the organ. Maybe move it up an octave? This could also fix the lack of high frequencies pointed out by Battlegun. The organ sounds massive compared to the rest. I would cut some of it out with EQ. 1 Quote
Slazeus Posted July 12, 2018 Author Posted July 12, 2018 Thanks for the feedback jnalanko! Yeah I did that with the vocals on purpose because I thought the trill would help suggest that it was supposed to be an angel or some other divine being singing, maybe it doesn't I guess haha! I did (while doing this original mix) want to leave the organ and the vocals more prominent, keeping the harp a bit more to the background to add some subtle flavour to the sound but I do think raising it an octave would help actually. Thanks again for the feedback and taking the time to listen! Quote

Nice idea though. Edited July 12, 2018 by jnalanko Quote
Gustav Johnson Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Agreed about the balance comments! Compositionally you could remove some notes you have doubled in the sustains (i.e. don't have both the pad AND the organ AND ... all play the full triad, maybe have the organ play the full triad but the pad only plays the thirds or something similar). Your other option is to go back and not necessarily remove, but definitely adjust the frequencies that are covering stuff. Good idea, I may have to do some projects like this. Gustav Johnson Quote
bryla Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Write to the strengths of your samples! I would replace the vocals with a flute and lose the organ. Maybe do horn pads. The organ feels too human whereas the harp is angelic. Just like a horn pad would be. You could always do a single vocal triad at the very end (tonic) to signal the heavenly gates were opened. I'm not certain that it needs more instruments but rather a drier sound on all instruments so it feels a bit more cohesive. Thanks for sharing! Quote
