Peter Grimes Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Hello Everyone, I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this kind of post. I was told that this is probably the right place Quote
M_is_D Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I want the music to have a VERY modern sound and it to be preformed in a modern way. Just some examples of composers I have in my head: SHOSTAKOVICH, SHOENBERG Quote
Peter Grimes Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 I guess you are right. That is not VERY modern. I do not know too many modern composers. But those names came to my head... I am sorry... Quote
M_is_D Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 You don't need to be SORRY :P Also, Shostakovitch and Schoenberg aren't too similar. Try to PM Christopher Dunn-Rankin: he's the best modern composer over here. Quote
Christopher Dunn-Rankin Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I'm flattered to be called the best modern composer here. Thanks M! And Peter, I have some idea of your requirements now, so if you send me the stuff via e'mail, I'll get to working on them. If you go to my profile and click "e'mail me" that should work fine. If not, PM, and I'll send you my address. Quote
johannhowitzer Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 At the risk of taking too much onto my plate musically, I'd be interested in setting a poem or two. PM me, I may not remember to check this thread. Were you wanting more atonal music, or along the lines of Shostakovich's more tonal works? Also, rather than handing me a poem, it would be helpful for me to be able to pick - that way, I get a poem for which I have sufficient inspiration. Quote
Maximilian Caldwell Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Pardon my elitist attitude, but since when is 13 poems a lot of writing? Even I don't think I've written a lot, and I've written over twenty plays, fifteen short stories, a book, and various libretti! Unless they're epic poems like Ballad of Reading Gaol or the Illiad. Both of which should become an oratorio and an opera, respectively. Quote
Maximilian Caldwell Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Wait...have you met Morivou? He needs a librettist and you need a composer! But you're a poet, not a librettist...grr. Well you can branch out. Quote
J Palarino Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Hmmm....Im always interested in setting poems as well. Pm or email me if you are interested. I have only one of my works posted on this forum but if you are interested to listen to it check out the thread called "metamorphosis" under Chamber works. Quote

jamminpiano Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hello! My name is Stephen and I am a young composer, currently awaiting publishment of my latest choral work "Mayenziwe" from Earthsongs Inc. I am, jointly, looking for a lyricist, I cannot write words for the life of me! To place my work in retrospect, my compositions retain the simplicity of Mozart melody, but a fullness of Puccini philharmonic. My definition of "modern" styling is a contemporary melody in a classical frontier. My classical training dictates this styling, and my compositions are fruits of this medium. Feel free to e-mail me a sample poem at jamminpiano@yahoo.com and I shall render a composition to it, sending you back the full protoype in a Finale audio file. Upon receiving, you may decide if I am an endeavor worth pursuing. Thank you and I hope this works out! - Stephen Quote
