mithius Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 This woman is called su meng she plays caprice No 24 Paganini beautifully. I do not know much about paganini and I have not heard many women play music though she stopped me listen if you can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChZ_YRVk4Mc...ted&search= Quote
Guest Bitterduck's Revenge Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Oddly enough. I've seen three women play the 24th caprice on the guitar and only one male. Males tend to perform the 5th. Just something i'm observed. You should check out Sharon Isbin. She is problem the best or one of the best women classical guitarist out there(after Bob). Quote
Will Kirk Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Didn't Jie li play that exact same arrangment of that? these women are just crazy, I still prefer Andres Segovia over everybody, the problem with these women to me is that they just seem to play, there's no emotion I can detect. IMO it just makes for a dull preformance when all you do is play and you don't put your soul into it. That was really the impression I got from that video, just blinding speed and no emotion. Quote
Guest Bitterduck's Revenge Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 With all due respect, The caprices are not really that emotional of a piece. Quote
Daniel Alley Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 wait, do you mean you haven'y heard many women who play Paganini caprices or you haven't heard many women who play music. lol Quote
mithius Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 Hello young composers, Bitterduck's Revenge-Sharon Isbin Cool thanks I will look into her when I get the chance. Nice observation Bitterduck's Revenge why do you think this is? Carulli_Guitar-I can understand the emotion you want from music.Mabe there was no emotion though I cannot comment. 1- I do not know the music that well and 2- I have not heard it performed by different people. It was played fast,to me this piece sounded great.I will have to check out Andres Segovia thanks Carulli_Guitar. Daniel Alley- Haha In answer I have not heard any women or men play paganini works Paganini is more or less unknown to me apart from the name I know not of his works Though I really liked this piece I am tempted to get some paganini. And I have not heard many women play music thanks Daniel Alley. Where is a good place to begin with paganini if I was to get one of his works?. Quote
giselle Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Duck, you should post those Isbin youtube links. I can't remember which ones you showed me. Quote
Tumababa Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Psshhhttt.... everybody knows that women can't play music... just ask that Giselle guy.... :D Seriously though.... anybody know the name of the guy who, while discussing big-headed composers, gurgled that famously sexist quote, "There is no feminine version of the word Creator"? Will Kirk Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 With all due respect, The caprices are not really that emotional of a piece. yes, your quite right. But it is possible to put some emotion in there even if it is just a little. All su meng did in the video was play, it's sort of like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1rslEpyfqM But what I'm talking about is more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo0nJ7zJF1M although it is a fast piece and there is not room for alot of emtion. I still find the contrast between these two videos interesting. I realize they are playing different instruments, but emotion should be universal, it is possible on all instruments (except maybe the drums, but that's different) Quote
Guest Bitterduck's Revenge Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 It isn't possible though. A lot of piano pieces lack their true beauty on the guitar. It is lost in translation. Quote
Tumababa Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I realize they are playing different instruments, but emotion should be universal, it is possible on all instruments (except maybe the drums, but that's different) Excuse me.... but did you just say that emotional playing is impossible on the drums? Clearly you must be talking about people who can't actually "play" the drums when you say they can't be played with emotion. Quote
Guest Anders Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 women who play music Huh? Never heard of anything like that before. What is it? ;) Quote
Will Kirk Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 It isn't possible though. A lot of piano pieces lack their true beauty on the guitar. It is lost in translation. yes, sadly that is true. what I'm talking about Bitter, is that they could at least TRY to put some emotion in it And Tumababa, I didn't say it was impossible, I just have never really seen a Timpani or a Snare drummer actually put his soul into his playing. So it is possible, I just haven't seen it done. Quote

Will Kirk Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 that's the biggest problem when you transcribe pieces of music from one instrument to the other Quote
