*COMPLETE!!!* Symphony No. 1 in A Major

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I finally got around to sitting down and working on a symphony. So far, I've composed the major themes and motifs, as well as come up with an outline for everything, but the only thing that is ready to post is the Second Movement. The brassy pentatonic theme at 183 is actually a throwback to a theme that will be used heavily in the first movement. I also recycled and expounded on a melody I previously used for a TTBB choral piece.

This is what I have so far. Looking for legit feedback. Thanks!

Finally Done

There's such an amazing feeling this movement gives, it's indescribable. You've done an amazing job with this, I would love to hear it played by a real orchestra one day!

Wow! I'm still into composing for strictly four voices (still a very beginner composer here), but I aspire being able to compose more complex work such as symphonies! Me and my teacher often refer to andante movement as the "boring" movements of symphonies when you're not really into it, but yours is definitely all, but boring! Great work!

On a critical note, I wonder if you can add more movement. Meaning, instead of just having block chords, how about delaying some of the chords.  Also, add more to the music vertically.

You obviously have a great sense of melody and chordal planes. My $0.02

I just added the very short third movement. Since I'm at work right now and don't have the ability to render it using all my VSTs from here, but want feedback, I posted the finale rendering. This movement is meant as a true Scherzo or "joke or jest" to lighten the mood between the fairly heavy second and final movements. It was really inspired by Respighi, Copland and Holst.
