I have completely improvised a waltz a few days ago. What took the longest was getting the notes into my notation software. I will probably do a revision focusing on the dynamics. But I have the basic dynamic arc down. There are areas where I set the Fate Motif to a waltz rhythm. Because of this, it doesn't sound as much like Beethoven's 5th as you might expect though the waltz certainly does sound Beethoven influenced. This is my second attempt at a waltz and the first time I have ever finished a waltz. What do you think of my waltz?

I'm sorry not to answer your original questions but in my mind those are not areas you should be concerned of.

After 16 bars I started to scroll only to discover there are 5 pages and it takes 7m31s and after 4 more bars I stopped.

Here are some points (although not an exhaustive list)

- improvised shouldn't be mentioned. That's either a brag or an excuse. Make it the best you can.

- first 8 bars of C-minor make some variation in the accompaniment. Displace the bass note, invert the chord tones, grace the bass note.

- harmonise your melody. That will make it more interesting. More chords that relate (better) to each other.

- bar 9 shouldn't be a B-flat major chord. It is weak on the melody. Maybe if harmonising the first 8 bars differently, you'll come up to another point.

- harmonise your non chord tones appropriately. Bar 10 beat 3! This is a golden opportunity to do something cool - and maybe go to a different place.

- bars 17 and onward: harmonise it differently than you did the first time.

- melody: change it up a bit (– maybe you should start with this since harmonisation will follow). For gods sake even the fate motif moves down a step the second time! Take advantage of that. Also don't start everything on beat 1. Having bar 3 start on 1-and saying D-Eb-D-Eb-D is cool!

Thanks for sharing! I don't mean to sound harsh it's just what I would be experimenting with for the first 32 bars.

I think the left hand should change in some parts.

I very well composed waltz. However, like you said above, the lack of a segment in the dominant key does make it seem a bit off. Anyways, well done!

Ps. I just realized you’re also on MuseScore 😁
