SilverWolf Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 which instruments take lead? song examples anything will help. orchestral genre. Quote
caters Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I don't know of anything off the top of my head that has a brass solo other than concertos for brass instruments, but I would imagine in a brass solo that either the horns or the trumpets or both would be taking the lead most of the time and that the rest of the time, it would be trombones taking the lead, and the tuba is left to give bass line accompaniment. 1 Quote
Tónskáld Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Check out Mars, by Gustav Holst. A great orchestral piece dominated with brass leads. Score located here: https://imslp.org/wiki/Special:ImagefromIndex/05396/hfne 1 Quote

SilverWolf Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 @Tónskáld Definitely off to a good start with the brass section. Quote
SilverWolf Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Overall I'm looking to create something with more action, abrupt sounding with varied articulations. Probably alternating to strings with leads to return to a stringed chorus. Quote
