Here is my new symphonic movement in BbM with a romantic character. Maybe in the future I can include it as a middle movement of a three-movements symphony.

It's the longest movement I ever composed and the first time I use an English horn in a composition, so I've been experimenting some sound combinations (unison/octaves) of the E. Horn with Bassoon, Oboe and Frensh Horn. I like its sound and since it has a middle register, it can double many orchestral instruments.

I'm pretty new in that kind of long compositions, so any feedbacks are wellcome.

Hello

Your piece is very nice and relaxing. At times the moving harmonies create a very beautiful effect which to me is reminiscent of the music of Scandinavia.

I think it could do with a little more variety, especially in the first section. Changing up the texture (maybe with more prominent wind and brass) will make it a good deal more interesting.

Thanks for sharing!

By Scandinavian music you mean composers like Eduard Grieg or Jan Sibelius?

I was thinking to shorten the repetition section, but I can consider some change of texture as you suggest as well.

Thanks for your comment!

This is beautiful!

Would love to hear it being performed by an orchestra, should really bring the composition to life.

Also, I think an arrangement for organ would be pretty nice, I can actually quite hear that.

Good job with your composition and thanks for sharing!

Best wishes, Jean

Nice work. It's peaceful.

The repetition of the first part is unecessary (for me). I know in those times of romanticism, exact repetition of parts was an essential of the style. But nowadays I prefer not to do it and go back to that material partially or in fragments later on the work. But that's my taste.

The counterpoint is good inside the sections (strings, winds/metals). I miss some contrasting melodies. I mean, most time one section is doubling the other or making a harmonic background.

Jean Szulc@ thanks for posting. I would also love to bring it to life, but I don't know any orchestra I can ask for it...anyway its never late for that.

Thanks for the idea of arranging it for organ. What kind of organ/stopps would you suggest?

Luis Hernández@ thanks for your comments. I know your taste are more modern than mine, but I really appreciate your critical point of view. About the contrasting melodies in which section/bar do you feel they can fit in?

If you prefer you can post me private 😉

Gracias!

I think a good part to try a second melody is m. 39-60 where the strings are alone.

If one melody is ecstatic, the other should be vivid and vicecersa. You don't need noting complicated in the second melody, just a contrast and filling.
