I am thinking of combining 'First 20 seconds' and Sept 26' together.  I always get stuck around the 30 seconds mark.

Any advice would be appreciated.

This is really cool. Could work with a certain type of video game...

I would recommend you weave your way into some form of transition, where you break the boundaries you have set in the preceding bars. Like any story, we should depart from stability towards something more uncertain.

Thanks. I do not know where I was going with those. I agree, a transition will help.

Yes well that’s a common complaint. Understanding form and structure is a distinct skill from understanding voice leading and harmony. People naturally neglect the former because they would rather get stuck right into making music, with a little knowledge of the latter.

William Chaplin wrote an authoritative text on sonata form, with case studies on Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven specifically. You will find that development is not actually hugely difficult to understand... a lot of it is sequential whilst moving through different keys. You have to know how to exploit your prior ideas. If you want to talk about this further just PM me.

I'd say that a good exercise you could try in order to connect these two ideas is getting (or writing) a short script or story. These pieces sound like diferent "adventures" or experiences of the same character, so you could benefit by trying to apply them into a short drama.

Take a poem, a fable, a video game, whatever inspires you and make it into a tiny (or any size you want) soundtrack. It doesn't have to be literal, and people don't have to realise what you've done, it only matters that it helps you in the process of connecting all those ideas.

First 20 seconds sounds like a character exploring a jungle or something, while september 26 sounds like a big challenge or a some sort of boss fight. Thinking about those possibilities might help you organize what each idea means/feels like, and then should help you assemble them into one final song.

You get the idea.

I hope it was of any help!

Best wishes, Jean.

The 'first 20 seconds' sounds like it was written in a very Stravinsky-ish pen-diatonic standing chord type of technique where every note of a scale is used during a passage.  It's a neat sound that you accomplish there.  Once again I wish you had a score - it would be an achievement on top of what you already have.  Always fun to listen to your music!

Adding another unfinished piece. I like where it's going but even this small segment needs to be ironed out.

@Esper

I like it.

As for how to continue... it depends on what you have in mind.

To me it reminds of Flower OST, so you might want to give it a listen.

I would love to achieve the level of complexity and beauty from that soundtrack. It is similar to what I have in mind. Thank you for sharing.

I like using chord + es. this is a good example of a dramatic intro. While writing to strings, I also like to write such intros. It would be nice if you can introduce the melody after the intro. otherwise it will just sound like background music. that's just my opinion, nice music and I like your other music here too. also i am wondering if you have created a score for these, i would like to see if any, especially may2019

March 6, 2021.mp3Thank you. I do not believe these are playable: I have not created a score. I wish my level of music theory were that sophisticated to create a playable score.
