Brandon S Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 A euphonium solo with piano accompaniment for a student at my university who commissioned me to write some music for his junior recital. I appreciate all feedback. https://youtu.be/CYEwDyBiZvI Quote

Luis Hernández Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Aren't the phrases too long? In some parts the piano could be more elaborated. The melody is nice. Just a question. can the euphonium play glissando downwards? Quote
Gustav Johnson Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Not sure how well the bends/etc. will work with euphonium, due to the valves. Buuut I spend all day around Jr. High and High School musicians, so I'm sure my perspective is skewed lol. Also the key of A Major is less forgiving to brass instruments than the key of B-Flat (just a half step away!), or even A-Flat. They should be able to manage without issues, but from an orchestration perspective you might consider writing in a key that compliments that instrument's overtone series a little better 🙂 Good melodies and accompaniment, overall a very solid piece! Monarcheon Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Quartal progressions were interesting, especially over a pedal pitch. One thing I noticed was the piano's textural rigidity between sections, some more contrapuntal stuff with the solo might be nice. Quote
