Fugax Contrapunctus Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) So I recently came up with a catchy subject and decided it to be developed on a different approach from my previous composing. I'm not really sure what is it supposed to be, neither on whether it uses counterpoint or not. To me this composition sounds more likely to be some sort of miliatry march, hence Allegro Marziale. I can't say to have succesfully avoided every single harmonic mistake posible, since I might have utterly failed on it as usual. Anyway, here it is. Hope it not to be as awful as my earlier compositions. Luis Hernández Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 This piece sounds modern because of a variety of harmonic "oddities". Just in the 3rd measure we habe an unresolved C-F# tritone and a C plus C# in the upper voice, etc... Although, at first sight, it seems that the subject (¿two first measures, I think?) is not the base of the piece, in fact the rhythmic structure of the motif is in many many places, with a series of transformation. In that sense, I see why you called it invention. I like the turn of the screw you did with baroque. Quote
Fugax Contrapunctus Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) Just re-uploaded the score and the audio after some corrections, such as the bass line of the progression in measures 64 to 66 or what I think to be an applied fifth in measure 46. Also changed the chord in the first-to-last measure into a (I think) Dsus4 chord (not really sure whether is alright or completely out of place...) In fact I was wondering why not using chords from the very first two measures, instead of sticking to the form as I had done before, and I wouldn't have imagined such success (by the way what I mean by succes here is having been able to finish the piece). Thank you! Edited November 16, 2019 by Nloki Quote
J.Santos Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Great piece!! I think it fits more the name of sinfonia rather than invention, but it doesn't really matter, if up to you Quote
