Left Unexplained Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) I thought it would be fun if we got together and made some Christmas compositions this month. There are no rules, there are no winners, just composers appreciating each other's contributions this holiday season. If you don't celebrate Christmas, feel free to enter music for other holidays or music inspired by the holiday season. The due date is December 25th. Have fun! Also, for every piece submitted I will donate 1$ to my local food shelf. It's not a lot but if more people want to join in on pledging we could all help make a difference while doing what we love! Tónskáld Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I'll do something in modern/impressionist style. The song I'm leaning towards is "On This Day." Does it matter the instrumentation? Like, should we all do something in the same genre (orchestral, for example)? 2 Quote
Left Unexplained Posted November 24, 2019 Author Posted November 24, 2019 No rules anything goes. It doesn't have to be a cover though, I'm making an original piece. Quote
Noah Brode Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I'll also be writing an original piece. It's based on a fragment I've had in my back pocket for a while, but I'm excited to take it in this direction. My theme is "Christmas Eve." Thanks for organizing this, @Left Unexplained 1 Quote
Left Unexplained Posted November 24, 2019 Author Posted November 24, 2019 @Noah Brode No problem, it seemed like fun :) Quote
Monarcheon Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 If I have time, I'll write a little comedic 12-tone or some sort of set-theory based adaption. Short and sweet, as I think it'd be enough to give the audience a good little laugh. 1 Quote
aMusicComposer Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I wrote a Christmas carol a couple of years ago (it's actually uploaded here.) I think that with the knowledge I have gained over the last few years, I could revise it an make it much better. It's a great idea you have here @Left Unexplained! 1 Quote
KJthesleepdeprived Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I'll join in too! I feel confident I can put together a little duet for piano and saxophone. Why saxophone? Heavens if I know! 1 Quote
Luis Hernández Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Hi, should we upload the pieces in this thread? I have one..... 1 Quote
caters Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I am composing a winter piece and will tag it in this event. It is taking a while, but, I think I can finish it by December 25th. Hardest part for me is figuring out what to name the piece. I know I want a winter related name, but I also know that I don't want it to just be Winter, since that could imply many different feelings from the drama of a storm to melancholy, to more of a joyful dance. I'm sure I will figure it out before I am done with the composition. Quote
Monarcheon Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Here's mine! I know it's a little weird, but I really enjoyed writing this! Quote
HoYin Cheung Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Here is the gift that I can think of:) Quote
caters Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Looks I will barely finish the piece on time. I just went through the hardest part of composing it, so the rest should be smooth sailing. Quote
Left Unexplained Posted December 24, 2019 Author Posted December 24, 2019 Thanks to everyone who submitted pieces (or is going to)! This was a wonderful experience. Quote
caters Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 I got my piece finished on time. Here it is: Quote
