Lucas Watts Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Just A short piece I decided to make in between some bigger works. MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Bagatelle_No._1 > next PDF Bagatelle_No._1 1 Quote
jawoodruff Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I love the mood this evokes. I feel it's not complete though. I think more could have been done with the arpeggios at measures 12 and 13. They seemed to abruptly cut off. Would have loved to have seen where that would have went. Quote

I might revise it, I just wanted to finish something while working on some bigger stuff. Quote

This ostinato pattern definitely provides something that can be worked with. I hope that you continue to work this material. You definitely have something here. Keep up the good work. Quote

As you said you're working on other stuff right now, you perhaps don't have much time to dig too deep in this piece, but it definately feels like it hasn't been worked through quite enough. I rhytmic ambiguity you created in the revised version was very required, in my opinion, and it made the whole thing feel a lot more complete. In general, it all feels quite square-ish (of course the midi doesn't help, and it will surely sound better when played by a human), and I think you can explore a lot more this material in various different directions. Make it more rhythmically, harmonically or melodically different than other existing pieces, I don't know, but I think you still require to make it "you-sounding". One way or another, his piece is in a good path and I think it may become very enjoyable if you decide to work it through. Quote
