johannhowitzer Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I think you're in the wrong place, buddy. I don't know a single person on this site who writes the sort of material you seem to be inviting - all you mention are songs and bands. If you're interested in wind quintet concertos, video game background music, German Lieder, and symphonies, then by all means, stick around. I see a few possible red flags in your post, though, that make me think you might be spamming. 1. You don't seem to be getting anything out of the deal. All you mention are things we'll get out of submitting our work; a real advertiser would realize artists want to know what sort of cut you're taking. 2. I recognize none of the artists you list; if you were capable of sending any of us anywhere, we'd see at least one or two big names because you wouldn't fail to mention them. 3. Your email address appears to be a private email without a company server. If you were an indie company, you'd at least have an email address bearing some resemblance to the company you claim to represent. I may be wrong about some or all of this, but I just smell something fishy. Quote
montpellier Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Johann, I see where you're coming from but it's in the way of indie labels not to have big names - it may just be a label + promoter and not necessarily manage the bands or if they do it's pretty rudimentary. (This one appears to claim to manage.) I'm thinking of the explosion of indies in the late '70s/early '80s - some were set up by the bands themselves just to get their titles in the shops and maybe only had two or three releases. Some barely even had a phone number! I wasn't of an age to do biz then but I had buddies in it later on. It's a nice life if you can stay afloat. Some labels, expecting to sell maybe 200 to hardcore fans would get their mastering and pressing "slid in" alongside some big-names' work to save money (maybe get it free). I won't mention major label names that suffered this peccadillo. It was fairly usual! One of said friends formerly had a label that sold between c 200-1000 per title average. He'd send promos to the radio stations and it would only need a DJ to plug one and demand would shoot up to 20,000. Then he could never find the pressing capacity. If he did and the stuff got delayed, the title might go off-the-heat and he'd end up with the invoice and thousands of unsaleable discs destined for recycling. Always a risk but it was either that or just not promoting his artists. Most indies do album art, promotion, distribution etc. But don't be surprised if a new indie hasn't even got a web page up yet! cheers, M Quote
Theorist Records Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 Thank you for your concern, but I garuntee that this is not spam. 1. Like I stated in the description, we do not function as a full record company, yet there are still many things that you get out of being signed to us. We will design album art for those incapable of designing it themselves, we can design their websites, we will setup their MySpace and PureVolume accounts, etc etc. As far as profit goes, it is split 90% to 10%, Theorist gaining the 10 percent. Therefore, if you sell an album for $10, we get $1, while you get nine. We also let you do your own financial stuff on your own. We feel that the artists can cope better when dealing with their financials themselves. 2. This is a label run through the internet, and these are all artists on the rise, not artists already famous. And I garuntee that there are many other people that have heard of them, it is simply another world in music. 3. If you go to our main page [http://www.monatori.com], you will see that it leads to Theorist Records. Also, there is a long story behind why it is named "monatori.com". Monatori started out as a band with the owner and his three friends. They later decided to create Monatori Productions, thus using the monatori.com address. They have recently changed it to Theorist Records because of confusion between the productions company and the band. Also, because of some financial problems with the guy who runs the website, we have not been able to change the domain yet. And you're right, I may be at the wrong place. I am looking for more voice stuff, but for those few who incorporate vocals into your music, this offer is for you! I promise there is nothing fishy through this either. Quote
