Tortualex Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 (edited) I started composing this almost 6 months ago, but I didn't finished ,until now because I run "Dry" of ideas. I used an harmonic ostinato by circle of fifths that repeats during all the piece. I haven't decided the dynamics very well, and don't sure where to add some more slurs. First time composing for string quintet, and for strings in general, hope there are no parts impossible to play. I add 2 audios, one with strings sounds and other with just piano, because some details are hardly noticeable because of the sound I used and my poor mixing. Any feedback is apreciated :3 Edited January 29, 2020 by Tortualex MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Passacaglia strings passacaglia solo piano > next PDF Passacaglia Quote
LayneBruce Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Im assuming this is based on Handels Passacaglia in g minor considering it borrows ALOT of ideas from it. I think it does well in this context, however I would consider slightly changing parts such as m.46 in which it uses the exact same pattern as seen toward the end of Handels Passacaglia. It's always okay to borrow ideas, I just think it might be good to change it slightly so you don't end up recreating a piece, knowingly or unknowingly. Otherwise sounds good! 1 Quote
jawoodruff Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Some of the double stops seem a tad difficult (particularly, the double stops spaced a third apart). I'd look at changing that. To keep the same note, just displace one of the notes to another octave -that works just the same and maintains the chord. Quote
i(don't)suckatcomposing Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Can I have a MusicXML file? I want to put in Sibelius, Using NotePerformer then post the video in this thread, I think It will sound much better. I like this work a lot. I have been trying to not use the circle of 5ths except in some circumstances, but I think I will compose the begining of my Easter Cantata as a Passigalica. Quote

Tortualex Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 Just now, Tónskáld said: Oh, sorry, guess I'm confused. What are you wanting a response on? He means a response by me about the video xd. Just now, i(don't)suckatcomposing said: Do I get a response? I want to know what you think! I like it, the sound is a lot better from the one of musescore I'll probably check out sibelius, but some dynamics like the fff of the contrabass were because the sound fount of the contrabass was almost inaudible if I let it at the same dynamic than the other parts (in musescore) so, I'll correct that when I have some time. Thank you for showing me how it sounds, I really apreciate it :3. Quote
i(don't)suckatcomposing Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Thanks for the response! 🙂 The main thing you need to look for is NotePerformer, which only works with Sibelius and Finale. The base application, like musescore, sucks. NotePerformer makes it sound great. 1 Quote
