Jean Szulc Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Well, not much to say about this tiny little thing I wrote. I was in the countryside of São Paulo, Brazil and decided to use my spare time to practice a bit of counterpoint. Please tell me what you think of it and if there are any mistakes, also feel free to point them out 🙂 MP3 Play / pause JavaScript is required. 0:00 0:00 volume > next menu Fugue no 2 > next PDF Fugue no 2 Quote
jawoodruff Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Not bad at all. Only tip I can think of is to open up your restatements of the subject to focus more attention to them. Quote
Jean Szulc Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 @jawoodruff I thought that blending the entrance of the subject was a "good" thing, so that the listener could only realise its going on after it's already in the middle of it. I don't know, I guess it was jsut a wrong conception :3 Thanks for the feedback 🙂 1 Quote
jawoodruff Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 It's not a bad idea at all. Part of the fun of a fugue is listening for the subject amongst the noise. It also keeps the listener involved in the texture. You could always use articulation to bring that out more. Quote
Jean Szulc Posted February 28, 2020 Author Posted February 28, 2020 @jawoodruff What do you mean using articulation? By slurring the subject onto whatever’s before it? Quote

Not necessarily slurs. Can be accents, staccato markings, or something along that line -just enough to draw the ear to the entries. A well placed rest would also help. 1 Quote
maestrowick Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 That's it?!?!?!?!?!?!?! EXPAND THIS!!! I WAS FEELING THIS!!! Quote
Jean Szulc Posted March 9, 2020 Author Posted March 9, 2020 I guess I'll expand it somewhere in the future. I only stopped it because I have to focus on some other important projects at the moment 🙂 But I'm glad it found it somewhat enjoyable, which is quite hard to make this kind of study sound like. Left Unexplained Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 very intricate, I like the unconventional chord changes near the end. Usually I don't like pieces in the kind of bach-y style but I found this enjoyable to listen to Quote
Tónskáld Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Loved this! I see you're getting some enjoyment out of the organ. 🙂 Quote
Jean Szulc Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 @Left Unexplained @Tónskáld I’m glad you both enjoyed it! The organ is amazing, I won’t say I’m not in love with it... 1 Quote
