This impressionistic-romantic piece was for a challenge to make a one handed piano piece sound like two hands or more (challenge rules meant that I had to make a piece that was relatively short). I've been studying left hand technique for a while and have made sure that the entire piece is playable. This is my most experimental and musically subtle piano piece yet, so I'd love some criticism on this piece on what I can improve on.

NOTE: You do not have to play the grace notes at the speed played; just play them as fast as possible. Rubato is encouraged.

A lovely, impressionist piece that has hints of Ravel. Your work suggests a familiarity with the Concerto in D.

Superb composition. I presume it was a midi-edited rendition unless you have exceptional speed with those grace notes.

Very beautiful composition.

However, this has been taken to the limit, in my opinion. Some parts are quite difficult, for example polyrhythms with one hand only, and at different layers... I hope you find a player for this.

Thank you; I'm glad you liked this composition! This is indeed a MIDI-edited rendition. In reality, a few of these grace notes would be played a bit slower due to massive jumps on the keyboard.

I have practiced Ravel's LH Piano Concerto for about three months, and I've been studying both left-handed pieces to understand LH techniques as well as two handed pieces to see if they could be turned into one handed ones for some parts. I'm glad you noticed 🙂

Thank you; I'll admit that this piece is extremely difficult with the polyrhythms, voicing, and jumps :3

At least the polyrhythms give a sense of two-hands playing (like the solo in Ravel's Concerto beginning at 8 in the Durand Edition). Yes it's difficult - needs good finger independence. I reckon I'd need a lot of practice to make it flow like it does in your rendition. Those accented notes must happen without disturbing the rhythm - all too easy to turn it rubato. The grace notes need courage and a very good aim.
